Mr. Breitsprecher's Library Media Skills

Information and technology literacy skills are important. I have been making videos for CLUB TNT (www.clubtnt.org), other organizations, and now my lessons in school library media centers. If we want to show youth that technology is important, then it is helpful to model the lifelong-learning skills and technical expertise we expect from children. Perhaps more importantly, as educators develop workflows to efficiently create media, we become ready to share that process with students. This podcast series will release 2 library media skill video each month. These video files are formatted for downloading and viewing on iPod/Zune-style media players (mpeg4). Please note: MOST PCs DO NOT HAVE MEDIA PLAYERS THAT SUPPORT THE TYPICAL PODCAST VIDEO FORMAT. If you don't need or want to download this file for a portable player, you may see the Webast (.flv) version on your computer. Please click on the logo to the right and you will be directed to my Library Skills Podcast Podcast Homepage and an online, embedded version of this podcast.

VIDEO/MP4: Alphabetical Order (iPod/Zune)

Some things we learn to do by DOING. I always carefully practice procedures like alphabetical order with students, but find having different ways to explain it and multimedia really helps. This video outlines the process so that we can practice. Being able to comfortably work with ABC order is important in a library and it's a core academic skill too (February 5, 2009).
