I have been a columnist in some Madison-area community newspapers for about 10 years now (VOICES and now Ambassador Times Journal). I write about eduation and early literacy under the banner "School Matters".
Often, the topic is sharing early literacy skills with children. Other times, I write about great picture books, chapter books, and teen reads. I've written a few columns on how books are organized in a library and research "tips 'N tricks.
Regardless of what any one column is about, the theme is sharing experience, strength, and hope from a librarian. From time-to-time, I have focused on monthly education themes. Librarians, especially school media specialists, know that the best way to teach research skills is to model the process.
That is what a Research Pathfind is is all about. Here are some that have created for my "School Matters" column that I keep online. All get many "hits" monthly, especially when that education monthly theme or celebration rolls around:
- African American History
- Alcohol Awareness Web (www.youthalcoholawareness.com)
- Asian Pacific American Heritage
- Brain Matters (Science-based substance abuse prevention www.brainmattersweb.com)
- Coretta Scott King
- Hispanic American Heritage
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
- Native American Heritage
- Women's History Month
